the main disenfranchisement in the U.S. has been by a complex, Orwellian process
resulting in auto-disenfranchisement, and the latest open disenfranchisement in
Florida should be considered in this larger context and cynicism.

I am still waiting to see how much the Florida coup generates new , mass struggle over
this issue.

Tahir: Charles this is very well put, but one wonders what would emerge if one
unpacked this phenomenon further. It would be interesting to know who votes and who
doesn't in a situation like this. In South Africa now, we are already seeing a marked
slowdown in voter turnout, less than 7 years after the first ever democratic elections!

(((((((((((

CB: That is sad, Tahir. It would seem that the "turnoff switch" in voters heads that
it took the U.S. bourgeoisie decades to develop and install, can be taken right off
the shelf and exported to other places. I may be overly mysterious when I say
"Orwellian complex". It may be as simple as not nominating anybody that people want to
vote for.
