I do not here want to respond to either Patrick Bond's review of 'Globalisation from Below', nor to Mark Jones' critique of Patrick. I just want to throw more fuel on the fire by strongly recommending Amory Starr's 'Naming the Enemy: Anti-Corporate Movements Confront Globalisation', Zed Press, London and St Martin's Press, New York. This is a longer and more theoretical book on the subject, in which she distinguishes three tendencies within the movement, 'Contestation and Reform', 'Globalisation from Below' and 'Delinking, Relocalisation, Sovereignty'. Whilst she posits herself within the last, she does not dismiss the others. This is an ambitious book, in both theoretical and methodological terms, and I think it raises the debate to a yet higher level. I feel a little uncomfortable finding myself (not by name) in the middle category, but also feel that such discomfort is both justified and thought-provoking. She makes a better case for the third strategy than I have yet read. I will eventually have to review it. And I look forward to the responses to this book or such a review from Patrick and Mark. Further: I can imagine a collection of such reviews and comments, which could well be a cyberpublication. I don't want to take this on myself but was wondering whether anyone else might be interested. It could/should include responses also to Naomi Klein's book. pw _______________________________________________ CrashList website: http://website.lineone.net/~resource_base
