I made this change back in september when I overhauled the spell noises
(c7574ff4). First, I noticed that there was a "grinding" message, but the
beam was actually silent. I suggested to make it noisy, but apparently, this
would have broken the new stalker class, which relies on dig to set up paths
for passwall. So the flavour was changed. And removing tmut from dig breaks
the stalker class. Also, liquefying stone seems pretty transmuty to me.
Leda's description says that it "liquefies the ground around the caster by
shaking it rapidly". That seems a bit far fetched. Why not simply making it
tmut/earth, like dig was?
All the other changes make perfect sense to me.
