All presentations from the last CRM meeting are quite interesting, but I'd like to point your attention to the presentation about Linked Data Patterns: http://www.cidoc-crm.org/docs/29th-meeting-presentations/Linked%20Data%20Patterns%20using%20the%20CRM.pptx Richard Light describes what is an LDP, and a particular LDP description format. He then tackles one particular problem: how to represent dates. He takes the advice from our work with the British Museum (Dominic Oldman's document), and points out the practical problems he encountered: - Advice document on date recording only found by chance via a Google search - Proposed new properties P81a, P82b, P82a and P82b not in official release - Absolute requirement for a stable URL set representing complete CRM He concludes that LDPs are useful modular chunks of best practice: "Design patterns fall usefully between CRM publications and (e.g.) BM document: bite-sized, LD-specific, generic, implementable" Patterns have been established in the IT community for 20 years. You can also call these LDP: Best Practices for representing CRM LD, or Mapping Guidance. These topics are dear to me :-) and were discussed at the CRMEX workshop in Sep 2013. Your thoughts on this topic will be much appreciated! Cheers! Vladimir
