In cases of impassable terrain (high mountains or something?), perhaps
take damage on landing, but once you have landed, should be OK.

If you're flying over impassable high mountains, and run out of juice,
you crash-land (taking damage). Then, if you survive AND the eight
squares around you are all impassable, sorry, you're stuck. Get some
rest till you can fly again, or cast town portal, or word of recall, or
dimension door.

 Yes - I agree.

On the other hand, it would probably be cool if one player was able to
carry another. Then you could do a "rescue". (Not to mention quite a
bit of other uses.)

Arguably not really hard to do. The biggest issue right now is that players/monsters blocking spaces is only way to attack them (something there, you have to attack it).

One could make a strong case that at least with flying, people on the ground shouldn't block you - you're flying over them after all.

I imagine the best way to handle carrying others would be some special command (grab ... and release ...) or something - you could even use it on adjacant people and that moves them to your space. Perhaps as a way to make sure it is a willing thing, only allow it if of the same party.

I'd think multiple people on the same space also becomes an issue if/when transportation objects are added (boats being the main one) - should certainly be reasonable that several people can get in one of the bigger boats (only one would be the captain - presumably the first one there).

When that type of code is added, having players carry other playes would presuambly re-use it - the person carying the other is acting as the transportation objects - just in this case, the player being carried does have any choice of where he is going.
