The way you said it sounds find.  If he isn't sure what a K&N filter would
even do for him, maybe he should try to do some research.  If you say it
like this...

It's pretty obvious from what you've said that you have absolutely no idea
how to make your car faster, which is also fine because you haven't
learned about that yet.

...then you're just being argumentative and this guy isn't going to listen
anyway.  That's like saying, "uhh, excuse me sir.  no offence, but you're
talking out of your ass.  do this..."  Whether or not it was intended to
be a rant, it was a rant.
