hi,

i just put a b16 into my 91 crx dx, and i just started it up a couple days ago. i test drove it around for a bit, and when i was accelerating out of a right hand turn, the engine shut off. i rolled into a nearby parking lot and checked fuel lines and looked for anything out of the ordinary. i didnt find anything and i tried to start it again. no luck. it just turned over like it was going to start, then ubruptly stopped when i let off of the starter. i sat for 5 mins and tried again...it started! but i have no idea why! so, when i got home, i took off the fuel return line from the fuel rail and had someone crank the engine...fuel pumped out. hmmm. i started it up and drove it a little more, and came back to the house. it died right in the driveway. i tried to start it again, but the same as before...just dies when i let off the starter. and it hasnt started since. new plugs, new cap and rotor, new plug wires, the main relay works, and the fuel pump is pumping fuel. in my! haynes manual it says my car has a second fuel filter in the rear next to the tank...hmm i cant seem to find it. could this be the problem? i havnt changed it since ive owned the car (14,000 miles). if it even exists. im stumped. i have no idea what it could be other than that lil fuel filter that i cant find. although, im still getting fuel pumping thru the rail. could it possibly be my ignition switch? when i let the key off of the starter to the run position, could it be slipping to turn it off? i have no experience with the ignition switch so i dont know. i know im turning the key correctly and everything. but anyways, if someone could throw some suggestions my way, i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,
chris

The Igniter (http://www.crx.org/southcal/tech/igniter/default.htm) is what came to my mind first.  Did you check the ECU for any error codes?

I would start with the ECU and check for any error codes whenever the engine dies like that.

But here are some other things that come to mind:

- Fuel pump.  Did you verify if that yellow/black wire did indeed go to the fuel pump?
- Main relay.  Can send you instructions on how to check it although I did send instructions on how to do this to the list a few weeks ago.  I may still have a copy of it.  I'll have to look.
- Ground.  Re-Check your grounds.  You may even want to add a new ground from the engine to the frame.
- You may have a bad ignition switch.  I can send you instructions on how to check it.  I had this problem with a 1955 VW Bug I use to own ~ the tumbler was so worn out that any sort of weight on the key ring would turn the engine OFF and ON.
