thanks for writing back. i just did a tune up on there car i got the car from
some kid who really didn't take good care of it. it's a manual trans just put
a clutch in. so u also think it might just be the choke. u say to bypass the
choke how would i go about doing that not really sure on that? thanks again
for writing back hope to hear from u again thanks

I'm not all that experienced with the First Gen CRX but from what I know of carburetors is that the choke will either be of two varieties:

(1) Electronically controlled using some sort of bimetallic coil spring.  Which is what I believe your's is.

(2) Water/Coolant temperature controlled.  Coolant lines go into a housing on the carb that controls a valve which controls the butterfly via a linkage.

Some actually use a combination of the two.  And I have dealt with some carbs where they used an electronic choke and a vacuum controlled diaphragm (controlled by the temp of the coolant...) which actually controls another valve inside the carb body that allows for more fuel to drop in to help richen the mixture.  It's suppose to help the engine start easier when cold.

Some of the older Bosch fuel injection systems use this with a modified fuel injector that is located in the intake manifold, behind the throttle body.  When the engine is *cold*, the injector sprays a fuel to richen the mixture.  When the engine comes up to temp, this injector shuts off.  In some cases, this injector leaks and causes rough idle when warm.

What I would do is perhaps clean up the choke assembly using carb cleaner (use with care as it is flammable...).  Most chokes use a cam of some sort to keep the butterfly open when cold.  This is why when the engine comes up to temp you are required to step on the gas to get the idle speed back down to spec.  Or, if it's not fully warmed up yet, a dab on the gas pedal allows for the cam to roll into position and keep the butterfly open.

I would also go out and get a service manual of some sort.  Either a Chilton or Helm.  There should be a troubleshooting flow chart of some sort.  I only mentioned a sticking choke because I've had that problem before in some of my past cars.

Or... just take it down to a local shoppe.  They will probably do a basic tune up first which includes setting the air/fuel mixture and idle adjust.

Otherwise, I can probably research it a bit further for you if you want.

Best of luck and sorry I couldn't have been more help.
