Yes, JDM engines do not have US EPA certification tags. Therefore, they must
be verified that they have the necessary equipment to meet federal
standards. If a motor is not complete, let's say a shortblock, then it is
considered as engine parts. However, if it has all the components which
include the intake and fuel injection, then it is considered as a complete
engine and must have US EPA certification tags. The exception is that it
enter the country as a race only engine. Some affidavits and possibly
bonding may be required before even a race or experimental engine is allowed
to enter the country. You need to consult your regional customs office at
the point of entry before importing any JDM parts as an individual. Parts
importing companies receive some type of leniency from customs. So they have
an easier time getting engines thru. They usually get the benefit of the
doubt when it comes to the fine line of determining whether it meets entry
requirements under one category or another.

Has anyone ever had a problem with Customs and importing a JDM engine? I
know for a fact that some kid brought in a JDM engine (b16a? i think) and
customs had to destroy it since it could not be proved that it met epa
standards. Even honda america could not verify the engine. Something like
the engine number was out of a certain range, so it was not legal to use the
motor in the US. He paid ~$1200 for the engine plus hundreds in
shipping/storage/etc charges.

If it comes to replacing the engine, at least get a ZC. they are the same
price as the stocker, but with more omph. I got mine from gomotors.com for
like $600 to my door I believe. Ran like a champ.

soon I suppose. Anyhow, my timing belt broke. Cause: water pump bearing
combusted and threw the belt. Upon removal of fried pump we noticed it
grinded away the cavity in which it sits. Now we are thinking the new pump
may not pump water as well. Any thoughts?

head off and did not see any evidence of a valve/piston union. So did we
just luck out? We are taking it for a more professional opinion, but I
always thought on an interference engine you are pretty much guaranteed to
break something.

where is a good place to get a short/long block? I'm going to do some
research now on the internet (local Checkers wanted 1745.99 for long block)
to see what options I have. Thanks and let the partying continue :)
