I am about to buy my first car and I have decided to get a CRX,

Good choice!  ;^)

I know I want to be able to race my car with the stock engine and I also know that CRXs are about the lightest thing out there for the money.

That statement can be argued but for the most part you are correct...

What I don't know and would like to find out is, what kind of engine it comes with stock (88-91 SI).

The stock engine found in the US model Second Generation CRX Si is a 1.6l, 16 valve SOHC (non-VTEC) Multi Point Fuel Injected engine with a compression ratio of 9.1:1 which produces about 108 BHP @ 6000 RPM (redline is 7100 RPM) and 100 ft.lbs of torque at 5000 RPM.

I want a CRX but, if I'm gonna have to do an engine swap just to get it to begin to go faster then I'll be forced to choose somthing else (I don't want to have to do that!).

First thing you need to tell me is what sort of "racing" you plan to do.  AutoX. OpenTrack or straignt line (1/8 and 1/4 mile).  Or perhaps a combination.  Also, will this be a part time racer (i.e. weekend) or will it be a full time racer?

You'll find that the CRX does very well in AutoX racing.  Because you don't really need a lot of horse power to do well, the stock Si power plant does just fine.  You'll want to perhaps spend money in the handling (suspension) if you are planning to do this sort of racing.  While the stock Si engine does well, a ZC engine transplant is very affordable and it will work out very nicely but it will most likely bump you out of the stock class and into the modified (depending on the sanctioning body that is hosting the AutoX).

If you plan to do OpenTrack and straight line, then you'll want to invest in a B series engine and it can get costly but compared to other makes and models that produce similar performance and power, a CRX with a B series engine done right gives you more bang for the buck, IMHO.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could e-mail me back the information I requested and maybe some advice and/or tips of some sort that you think might be useful to me.

I would start with these two sites first:

        http://www.hasport.com

        and...

        http://tech.hybridgarage.com

Lots of great information on both sites and both have links to other sites with information.

Hope this helps...
