You need a couple of dependencies: http://crystalspace3d.org/docs/online/manual/cs_2.3.php#2.3 You probably need distro-specific development packages or similar. You need to re-configure after installing so the newly installed deps are picked up.
Those ideas are rather basic and not specific to CS. (We can't and won't explain how your computer works.) This list is about Crystal Space, and not for general "how do I build library X" type issues. -f.r.
