AFAIK it's 0. (I think the device number offset was 1-based.)

Once you provide a better patch - we don't like hacks in SVN. I doubt
"23" is an universally working offset for the button number. The correct
approach is probably something like determining what buttons a joystick
really provides, and mapping the first button to index 0, the next found
button to index 1 and so on.
