I tried RakNet, but it doesn't work with MinGW.
Has anyone got an internet communication going with a library for MinGW?
Or maybe someone may suggest that I move from MinGW and turn my gaming box
into a Linux Box? (I can live without gaming until Age of Conan or Starcraft 2
comes out)
I need some hand holding to get a UDP connection going in C++. If someone
has done it before, can you suggest to me what steps I have to do to get
started.
I'm a good programmer, but I'm not so hot at keeping up with technology. If
someone can get me started(say send a UDP packet), then I should be home free.
My Plan:
I'm going to make an open source part of my project. It's going to work like
Battle.net, but have no central server. How it works: Everyone holds a list of
people that were on the network last. When you logon, it goes through the list
and tries to connect with each person. If it connects, the person you
connected with will send you a list of everyone on the network. If it doesn't
connect, it asks you for a manual IP and Port address to connect to.
Later I'll add a main server, but I don't think I'll publish this code
because it will be specific code to my game alone, and not useful to a general
public.
To conclude:
I'm looking for the unofficial networking code for CS.
Thanks,
James Sager
