We have a vicon mocap installation at the U of M so there is potential for
capturing new animations (there's also a good chance that I will be in
charge of it and lots of other VR hardware this coming fall). I always
thought it would be fun to get in there an play with it and if I had
something productive to do all the better!
I have worked with mocap data from the internet before (six years ago) with
a class project. It's quite simple if you have it in the right format.
However, the data I was using was already very clean and I'm guessing
there's an art to that part that I am oblivious of. In any case, If this is
of interest I'm sure I can squeak out some time on the system during the off
hours, just pass it off as my own experimentation / learning of the system.
We'd just want to use the time well, minimize it, make sure we knew exactly
what we needed, possibly already have a rigged skeleton to visualize the
motions on to make sure they look correct and are smooth. Strictly speaking
it's supposed to be used for funded research only but it spends a good
portion of the time sitting there unused so I don't think anyone would mind.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
