He is very interested in security. He’s messing with all sorts of stuff,
reverse engineering, mysql injection and stuff. I would be very surprised if he
really was cheating, mostly because he had the worst score by all of the
players on the server.

But I don’t know how VAC works, and I don’t know how DEP works. But is it
possible that he was banned by a mistake? I’ve always believed that VAC was
100% right, but that’s because I’ve never heard of anyone getting unbanned.

The fact he sounds clueless and had DEP disabled already rings alarm bells that
he's not telling you the truth. (messing with some viruses..?)

Most Ring0 cheats involved disabling DEP and hence why VAC now enforces DEP.
Obviously anyone can just disable this for different reasons hence why it does
not VAC you just fail to authenticate.

If he really received a VAC ban, it should say so on his Steam community
profile.

Not being able to connect to VAC secure servers can also be the result of a
problem with VAC authentication.

If he does have a VAC ban, it probably has its reasons. If not, I suggest you
check the link I posted earlier.

If that doesn't help either you can go to the Steam forums and ask for help
there, or contact Steam Support to resolve the issue.

However, this is not the right place to discuss this any further.

He was told that he was VAC banned in CSGO. He was disconnected while we played
the match, and the next day he couldn’t connect to VAC secure servers.

A friend of mine had the same problem last week. The exact message was the
following:

"An issue with your computer is blocking the VAC system. You cannot play on
secure servers."

The culprit was some dodgy antivirus or anti-spyware software he had installed
on his computer.

I told him to clean up the software and the problem disappeared. In other cases
DEP can also be the problem.

More information can be found here:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2117-ILZV-2837

Being disconnected for having a problem with "VAC authentication" is not a VAC
ban.

If you get disconnected from a match (multiple times) because of this, you
might receive a competitive cooldown,

however, this cooldown is not VAC related.

I got something like this a couple of weeks ago. It took me days to figure out
what was wrong, which was, of course, DEP was not turned on. Do a quick Google
to find out why its not letting you turn it on. When I got to the DEP part, I
was able to enable it just fine.

Hi,

This question might not belong here, but I'll give it a go anyways. My
friend (yes, it wasn't me) was VAC banned from CSGO 2 days ago. He claimed
that he didn't hack, and I had to believe him, even though I've heard many
lame excuses to cover for a VAC ban. We were playing competitive when he got
disconnected due to something with VAC authentication. We were losing the
match, and he had the lowest score, which made me believe in what he said.
We've been playing together for a very long time, and he has never played so
good that you would suspect him for hacking.
I started looking into the problem, and stumpled upon a reddit post where
people claimed they had been VAC banned without hacking. A lot of people,
actually. Apparently it had something to do with DEP was turned off. I
asked my mate to open TeamViewer so I could check something, and I saw that
DEP was turned off. I asked him why, and he said he was messing with some
virusses a long time ago, and that it had to be turned off. Don't get me
wrong, he's not one of those bad guys, infecting computers and shit.

Reading a bit more into the case, I saw that Valve recently published an
update that needed DEP to be turned on, without really stating it anywhere.
Have any of you guys ben affected by this? I saw some guys on Reddit saying
that they didn't get a permanent ban, but he wasn't told whether or not the
ban was permanent.
