While Metamod uses Valve's plugin interface, the interface hardly supplies any functionality, and given how almost all of SM's functionality works (the concept being memory hacking), it is barely even needed.

I am not holding AM responsible for Valve's changes, I'm just saying more than one kid misbehaving makes a kindergarten party. I'm saying this because of the way AM manages its forum members and lets its platform go to waste from "something awesome to create new content" to "a tool scammers can use to rip off serverops and annoy Valve". If I were to manage a platform of that much power, the only reason I would not be the least annoyed or concerned by kids abusing it, is if I'd be in good company. Don't get me wrong here, MM and SM are not only great tools but mandatory for communities to thrive, Valve's products to live on and make more money, and modders to learn and gather experience to create great things and grow alongside the greatness of their creations.

I hardly see how you can blame an indepent modding community for using resources supplied BY VALVE to create modifications that otherwise would not be possible (without Valve's original support for modding to begin with). AM shouldn't be responsible in any way for Valve's inability to communicate what we need to do.

This last minute notification (after the bans) informing us that custom weapon models and skins aren't allowed either could be considered nothing but poor taste on Valve's end.

This is coming from someone who received no bans.

To be fair, until this point these plugins all followed Valve's guidelines and AM followed those. That said, AM openly admits that they do not care about what happens outside their forums. I'd arguably claim that they do not care about what happens inside their forums as well. They allow for a private-job system where coders aren't coders but scammers. People make a buttload of money stealing other people's plugins and reselling them as their own, or by writing plugins that are so bad they're dangerous to run (i.e. Francisco). I find AM to take responsibility here in the fact that with a problem like this (that is a huge epidemic), they have 0 interest in even releasing a statement that educates server operators (who have to trust these apparent coders blindly) about the risks of this private niche, plugins, and their coders.

Regarding Valve:
This is the point where they just overdid it. This is actively killing servers (not harming communities by passive changes done before). Like children, they suddenly changed their rules and did not give the operators any time to adjust to the changes, but instead banned servers permanently, then released a guideline after. This is just disgusting. Furthermore, these changes now hurt mods that add actual content and (re-)playability to the game. No more custom weapons with their own, custom coded, functionality. No more viewmodels that match a zombified player.

While I see AM's failings to handle certain people to trigger these changes, I also see a company that apparently looks for excuses to piss their people off and destroy their own product. Apparently they do not want to make money after all, 2.5 billion (that is with a "b") US$ of total equity value is enough. Maybe they're starting a charity at some point, and are converting the company, pushing away the players first. I'd welcome that.

I have no idea why a completely independent modding community approved an obviously unacceptable plugin. Maybe you should ask the plugin approvers at alliedmods why they did it. In the meantime, put your trust in what Vitaliy, an actual valve employee says, over an independent third party.

I'm not saying alliedmods represents valve's policy but that

Doesn't dropping the knife and respawning duplicate the knife too?
