A good choice for a stable cross-browser table-less layout is the the 2 or 3 three column layout on this page <http://www.alistapart.com/articles/negativemargins/>. Read and follow the tutorial. If you want a fixed width layout just add a containing wrapper around the whole thing and assign a pixel width of say 760px to it-- no need to modify anything else. If you run into problems with it, write the list as you encounter them; or contact me off-list. Either way, I wish you well.
