http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/onetruelayout/equalheightshould
have the information you're looking for. Skip to "How?" if you
aren't interested in a brief history of equal height columns.

Long menu items ( Shark Valley - Everglades NP) cause the quote-index DIV

I can offer you a quick fix, but the problem here runs a little deeper.

Quick fix: remove the "border: solid 2px white;" from "#menu a:hover"

At 800x600 the left quote-index DIV paragraph margin collapses and the menu
> div shortens and the thumbs overflow to the left.
>

Quick fix: add "margin-left: 30%" to #thumbs. This will make the thumbnails
always line up with the text above them. Again, these are cursory fixes to
a bigger problem. Spend a bit of time at
http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/onetruelayout/ for more
examples of a clean, structured layout. I hope a kind soul can give you a
more specific example. :) Best of luck, and beautiful pictures!
