Found it.  The pulse is a background image so that it can span the
entire header but I wanted the user to be able to click the logo so I
made a transparent image that sat over the logo space and made it a
link to the home page.  When the font size changed it pushed it into
the image forcing the whole UL to flow below it.  I made the box
smaller and now it works.

Man, this has to be the most responsive list that I have seen recently.
