Thanks for your reply Mike. Yes, MySQL is running - as I mentioned in my previous post, I can connect via a test class. I can also connect to MySQL using WebMin as well as from my Windows XP machine (via the WLan), using MySQLFront.
Mandriva's config tool indicates that there is no firewall active, but I will take a look into msec - perhaps it's something that is configured elsewhere. As far as which ip I can telnet into... mmm I can't rememer testing the WLan IP (192.168.0.2), but I definately had success on localhost and 127.0.0.1. For interest sake, my hosts file contains only one entry: 127.0.0.1 localhost It's really strange that I can connect via a test class but not from Tomcat using that same test class.... can anyone think of any reason for this?
