It is unless you've explicitly uninstalled it. (One of the compelling
reasons why I ditched Mandriva in the end - too much stuff that kept

It's really strange that I can connect via a test class but not from
Tomcat using that same test class.... can anyone think of any reason
for this?
Can you post the code...
Are you running Tomcat with a security manager? Anything in the Tomcat
logfiles? MySQL logfiles?
