I think he's just having a good whinge about one of the webapp frameworks.
He is probably talking about either JSF or Struts or Spring.
Me, I personally like Tapestry and Wicket.
I don't like "coding by XML" - I don't even like Ant.
But it's not like that style of implementation is fundamentally wrong - it's just not my preferred mode of programming.
