this is excellent advice. in doing Y2K preparedness tour of US/Asia perhaps the best suggestion we offered was having a standard analog 24 volt telephone (with standard RJ11 jack) working on premises. And sure enough, while there were few Y2K glitches at all, there were NO glitches with the publicly switched telephone network.
