In Hillsboro sleeping in the library became a problem one summer when a mother and several of her children would come to the library on very hot days (apparently they did not have AC at home). The children would sit and read and the mother would go behind some of the more hidden stacks and lie down and take a nap. This was in the children's library and it scared a few kids and a staff member or two when they would round the corner and see a woman lying on the floor. Sooooo we stated in our policies that sleeping is not allowed in the library. But if a person dozes off while sitting in the lobby reading a magazine or newspaper, I usually do not awaken them. If they are snoring, I do go by and drop things or move furniture around to wake them up. Usually in these instances the nap lasts for only a few minutes and generally I'm quite envious. With such a high percentage of elderly people in our population, I think that dozing off comes with the territory.
