Streamlined Planning is Not an Oxymoron!
Using the New Planning for Results

In this half-day workshop, participants will receive an introduction to the
New Planning for Results planning process developed by the Public Library
Association. This process is community based and reduces the planning
process to 3-4 months. The process identifies the service priorities for the
library that best match the community needs and includes a strong emphasis
on measurement and evaluation.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

     *Public library directors
     *Department managers
     *Other staff with planning responsibilities

OBJECTIVES:

After attending the workshop, participants will:

Be introduced to the new PLA planning process and learn how it differs
from previous planning processes.

Understand that planning simplifies decision making.

Discover the importance of community involvement in the planning
process and the impact of community involvement on the success of
implementation.

Gain an understanding and overview of the steps in the planning
process.

Know how to begin the planning process in their own library.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Jeanette Larson is one of twenty-four trainers endorsed by the Public
Library Assocation to provide training on the new Planning for Results. She
has more than twenty-five years experience in public libraries and is
currently the youth services manager for the Austin Public Library. As
Director of Library Development for the Texas State Library she was
responsible for statewide planning for the improvement of public libraries.
Ms. Larson acknowledges the importance of planning to the success of

offer a process that minimizes planning time
and allows planners to "get to work."
