I'd be very tempted to ask him to visit you in your office and then tell them that according to your circulation records, tens of magazines that he has checked out have had pages and articles removed. Can he explain what has occurred? Tell him that the cost is $..... and how would he like to handle this. I'd be surprised if you get any money, but I doubt that he will never return to your library after this conversation. We are talking about dozens of magazines and he did it surgically without us realized it until another patron reported to us that pages were missing. My question to other libraries is that has anyone try to ban a patron from coming to the library from a similar situation. We think if we let him use our library, he might hide somewhere and cut out pages without us knowing it. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
