Our policy on dirty returned books and magazines is they buy them.
Period!!!!

We had a high school Yearbook stolen in a high school child's backpack.
The yearbooks are Reference only. So, I posted a sign -- stating that
all backpacks are left at the circulation desk, while patron is using
the library. No more problems!!!!

I hope this helps.

I have a couple of recurring problems. One patron always returns the
books
filthy. They have food on them, dirt, roach droppings, etc. How do you
handle this?

There is another patron we suspect is taking the new magazines by
slipping
them in his brief case. does anyone have a policy about prohibiting
briefcases or backpacks or a policy to search these items before the
patron
leaves?

Thanks for your help.
