Windsor Park Branch had a Homeschooling group which met regularly at the branch while I was manager. The group started out meeting once a week, using the library pretty much the same way as any parent and child would - to find books and media of interest to them, or to work on a particular assignment. They sort of split off a subset for older kids called "Young Writers Club", which used our Wired for Youth Center (I think it was bimonthly?) while our public schoolers were in school. We also made an effort to order materials for homeschooling parents, not the actual curriculum, but rather "how to school your kids at home" type books. The kids were (on the whole) polite, smart, motivated, enjoyed learning, got into good colleges, etc. The mothers were fun to have around and were loyal customers, even after their kids went off to college. They used interlibrary loan, the TexShare databases, etc. The teens liked to write and talk about books (unlike most of our teen patrons). Some of them would have loved to join a book club, although it didn't get started until several years later when Joanna Nigrelli started one. So, I'd say it's a great idea! You will find it surprising and rewarding.
