I think the key to starting a formal group is to find the "leader" (a
homeschooling parent who is articulate and who has lots of ideas and
contacts), find out if individual families have joined a homeschooling co-op
and if so, who the "leader" of that co-op is. Bee Cave might be
participating in group activities in the Austin area, for example. Usually
if you ask your homeschooling parents, they'll be glad to tell you what they
know about how homeschoolers get together in their area...

Thee second step is to build an e-mail list of all your local homeschoolers,
tell them about the program you are starting and ask them what days/times
would work for them. In other words, don't wait - just do it!

I also meant to add that we have bought a number of books for parents about
how to homeschool, curriculums, etc. ("advice" type books) and they have
been well used and received.

Best,
Angela

Everyone:

We have lots of homeschoolers in our area and many of them use the library
to study, meet, get books, etc. BUT we have not been able to get them to
meet formally. It is a group that we would love to get started,
particularly when our new building is open next year and we have more room.
We are also willing to do special activities for them now also. We would
love the information about how others do this also.

Best,
Angela

Friends-

Tommi Myers in Llano ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is starting a Homeschool
Activity/Support Group. She wants to know who else serves homeschoolers in
this way and how you promote it. You can respond back to me, the list or
directly to Tommi.

Thanks for helping!
