Cell phones are just a way of life anymore. We have had signs posted for
years saying "use cell phones in designated area only." We designated our
coffee bar area near the front door and many people actually go outside into
our breezeway. It helps to have all those covered porches! Occasionally
people talk on their phones at the computers-if they are not loud enough to
disturb people, we don't do much. If they are loud, they get reminded to use
the designated area. People occasionally go into the stacks to talk on their
phones. Much more annoying and of course, out of the control of the patron
is the phone ringing with one of those loud, long songs. Most people act
embarrassed and quickly shut them down.

We are not the quietest place anyway so this may just be a bit more
tolerable for most of us.

Does anyone have cell phone policies in force and would they be willing to
share how they handle this growing problem. I just had the second complaint
in less than a month, and it is time to write it down. Thanks.
