Dear TexShare Member Libraries, We are pleased to announce that the Texas State Library and Archives Commission has approved the following appointments to the TexShare Advisory Board, with terms beginning September 1, 2009. Board members are appointed to 3-year terms, with terms staggered so that only a portion of the Board "turns over" each year. The new roster is up on the TexShare Web site at: http://www.texshare.edu/memberinfo/advisoryboard/advisory2009.html 1) General public representative: Loriene Roy, Professor, School of Information and Center for Women's Studies, University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Roy served as president of the American Library Association 2007-2008 and was honored by Library Journal as one of the 2005 "Movers and Shakers," making special note of her projects, "If I Can Read I Can Do Anything," "NWIC Oksale Program Virtual Library," and "Honoring Generations." Dr. Roy's classes have partnered with TexShare to provide database guides, a Library of Texas tutorial, and a "Bridge to TexShare for Small and Rural Libraries." Dr. Roy currently serves on the board. She was recommended for reappointment. Term to expire August 31, 2011. 2) Private university representative: Candice Scott, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs - Library, Information Technology and Academic Support Services, Schreiner University, Kerrville. Ms. Scott holds active memberships in a number of professional associations. She was a participant in the Frye Leadership Institute. She served as secretary-treasurer of the Texas Independent College and University Libraries (TICUL), president of TICUL, TICUL member-at-large to the Texas Council of Academic Libraries (TCAL) board, and TICUL representative on the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) Library Working Group. She was vice president of San Antonio-based Council of Research and Academic Libraries (CORAL), and president of CORAL. Ms. Scott currently serves on the board and is the board liaison to the K-2 Transition Task Force. She is recommended for reappointment. Term to expire August 31, 2012. 3) General public representative: Cathy Dean. Ms. Dean is a strong supporter of libraries. She serves on the Alamo Area Library System Advisory Council. She is currently active in several units of the Texas Library Association - Friends of School Libraries; Library Friends, Trustees & Advocates; TALL Texans; Archives and Local History; Small Community Libraries; and Genealogy. Term to expire August 31, 2012. 4) Community college representative: Tracey Mendoza, Dean of Library Services, Northeast Lakeview College, Alamo Colleges District. Ms. Mendoza has also served as library director of Lee College. An active member and leader in the Texas Library Association, she has been a participant in the "Transforming Texas Libraries" Summit and TALL Texan Institute mentor. She has served TexShare as a member of the Electronic Information Working Group, and as a participant in the last two Statewide Resource Sharing Summits. Term to expire August 31, 2012.
