My scams were light bulbs; the guy told me what size we needed. The
second was copier toner. I had only been at the library a short time
and the caller knew the brands of our copiers, which I didn't! I
confess, I fell for one, but we refused to accept the shipment. After I
got the invoice, I called the company and told them it had been returned
and we would not pay the invoice. They continued to call for six
months, when they threatened the collection agency, I threatened with
our county attorney. The calls stopped.

Thanks,

Linda H

Subject: [ctls-l] Telephone Scams

If someone calls your library and says they need to get the model number
off of your printer, do not give it to them. If you are leasing your
printer from a company, they should have this information on your
machine. These people are just trying to find out what type of toner or
ink to try to sell you in the future. If they sound the least bit legit,
have them confirm their company name and identification before giving
out any information.

We just got our second toner scam phone call in two days. I just thought
it might be worth while to mention this in case it happens to any of our
members.

I am sure there are a million other telephone scams. If you know of any
others, share them with us so we can all be on the look out! Thank you!

And Happy Friday!!
