Yes Sir, for instance General Lee said in his resignation letter to U.S. Army
Commander, W. Scott, that he must resign his commission for he could NOT draw his
sword against his country....his native Virginia. This was in April of 1861 after
Virginia decided it no longer wished to be a part of the union of states. It would
have been considered treason had he remained in the Union Army "after" his country
had left the Union, no longer a part of it. I have read over the years diaries of
Confederate Soldiers, their letters, all kinds of research material which makes it
very clear they all believed as did General Lee that the State in which they lived
was their country.

Yes Sir, they did swear oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution, and very
loyal to it as long as their State (which was their country) was a member of the
union of states. But when the day came that their State divorced itself by the
consent of it's citizens from the union of states, they no longer held oath to the
U.S. Constitution. It only applied to the states that was in the union.

Yes Sir...when one wages war such as you speak of against THEIR country, that
would make them traitors I do believe. That's why General Lee, President Davis,
and all the Confederates did NOT wage war upon THEIR country, rather fought
bravely for their country (with most odds against them) against the tyrannical
Union that invaded them. No Sir, our Confederates were not traitors, not all,
Sir....rather heroes.

No Sir.....................

Yes Sir, it was, indeed. When South Carolina seceded the Union (my home State as I
am from the Palmetto State, born and raised right here, and pray God I die here),
it offered to pay the Union government for Fort Sumpter and the U.S. Sec. of State
promised that Maj. Anderson and his garrison of men there would be removed.
However, the order was never given. The promise was broken. South Carolinian's
bombardment on Fort Sumpter, did not begin the war, rather the Union military
there being the threat. The Union drew first blood. Not the Confederates. Talk
about conspiracy. In my view, one of the grandest conspiracies ever taken place
was that of Lincoln and his men's conspiracy against the Southron States.
Blessings,
Linda of the Palmetto State
