I am one of a number of folks (small? We haven't been counted.) wo think that Monica
went to the White House to "get" the president. Remember that she even stated that
goal. And that she kept after him until she "got" him. (Why else did they call her "the
stalker?)
A small little voice in the back of my mind considers her wealthy, powerful stepfather
and wonders if she might not even have been "sent" to "get" him. But so far that voice
has not been substantiated. Still it keeps whispering....
"Got" him, she did. Mission accomplished. I think Monica was relentless. I cannot
even begin to see her as a "victim." (And this is very different from saying that a
rape
victim was "asking for it.") We all know how vulnerable almost all men are to
relentless
flattery. Monica herself is not complaining. She has never said once that she was
"harassed." And as I said, half the grey-beards in my neighborhood are pushing
strollers, and their pretty young wives are probably just celebrating their 30th
birthdays.
All our movies show 70 year-old male stars with 20-something beauties and no one
has complained except the female stars who can't get good roles. There is sympathy
for older men doing what they will with young women. It is culturally accepted in this
society and generally considered to the man's credit, validating his superior "potency"
(i.e., power).
In an odd way, I'm sympathetic....as an oldster, I think most of the young 20-30-
something guys are much, much cuter than most of those aging greybeards--you
know, the ones pushing the strollers.
