Star Wars will save neither money NOR lives - re-read the above about
assessing threats, then consider the real threats facing the US, then
consider cost/benefit ratios. Whether or not we build a very expensive
system to intercept ballistic missiles, we have to judge the likelihoods
that 1) ballistic missiles CAN and WILL be launched at US territory, or
that 2) opponents could achieve the same ends via other, cheaper means.

You want to save lives? Outlaw automobiles - no more auto accidents.
Ban guns, knives, ropes, pesticides - greatly reduced homicide rates.
Prohibit electricity - no more electrocutions. Sure, you can devise
safeguards - but at what cost? Is the threat worth that cost? More
specifically, is it worth spending tens of billions of US dollars to
build an ineffective system, a system that doesn't begin to address
real strategic threats, an expensive system that can't handle cheap
threats, a huge system that any nimble operative could circumvent?

Star Wars is a sham. Admit it.
