# Head of Macedonia church dies. SKOPJE (AP) Archbishop Mihail, the head of
Macedonia's Orthodox Church, died Tuesday in a Skopje hospital. He was 88.
Cause of death was not immediately given, but the patriarch had suffered
from a heart condition for two years. The archbishop became the head of
Macedonia's Orthodox Church shortly after the former Yugoslav state gained
independence in 1991. The Macedonian Orthodox Church was formed in 1967
under Communism as a splinter division from the Serbian Orthodox Church
based in Belgrade, capital of Serbia and present-day rump Yugoslavia.
