LISTOWNER NOTE: Today is 13 August 1999. Reportedly, the Aztec calendar
ends today - there's no tomorrow. Some construe this as a prediction of
The End Of The World. Others say that the Aztecs plagiarizing the Mayan
calendar were too lazy to write down the next cycle. Whatever. If this
is The Last Day, I just want to say that it's been fun. Cya --Ric

# Are you a friggatriskaidekaphobe? (CNN) Margaret Downey wants you to limbo
under a ladder, waltz with anyone costumed in a black-cat outfit and break
as many mirrors as you can. And she says the more superstitious you are,
the better - it is, after all, the last Friday the 13th of the millennium.
"Friday the 13th is complete bunk, it's nonsense," said Downey, organizer
of the Anti-Superstition Carnival in Philadelphia. Those attending will be
poking fun at superstitions -- and having fun in the process.

: What's your favorite superstition? Do you avoid gatherings of 13 aliens?
Do you prefer your black cats curried, BBQ'd or southern-fried? To knock on
wood, do you tap your own head? Do mirrors spontaneously break around you?

# Life on Earth traced earlier. (AP) - Scientists studying Australian rocks
have found evidence that primitive forms of life existed 2.7 billion years
ago - a billion years earlier than had been previously shown. The finding
pinpoints signs of life to the Archean era, the period from the beginning
of Earth to about 2.5 billion years ago. That's even older than Bob Dole.

: Is this evidence real, or was it planted by deities/aliens/agents to trick
humans to accept evolution? Where/when would you like life to have begun???

Who's behind the plot to wipe out mankind, or at least the smartest program-
ming geeks, by getting them beer-drunk and infecting them? Is this another
fiendish plan from Bill Gates? Will he stop at NOTHING to stomp Linux? Eh?

the silent, daylong protest by more than 10,000 followers seeking legal
  recognition. http://infobeat.com/stories/cgi/story.cgi?id=2560682567-d7e
