I remember the first day on my new job.
We were asked to unload a truck. When it showed up, I started to move a
handtruck that had been placed in the street (in order to allow the truck
to park).
I was told in no uncertain terms by one of my co-workers to leave it
alone. Why? Because another business on the street had paid the Mob
protection for that parking space! The Mafia controlled all of the trash
collection, too.
just life in the Big Apple. But I do miss knishes (Nathans) and souvlaki
Chock Full of Nuts....oh well.
