Be grateful for the mob. The Syndicate in Pittsburgh used to run things
here. Taxes were low, services were excellent and the people who worked for
the city might have gotten their job because of an "uncle," but they went
ahead and learned it. We had a pony room two blocks from the police station
that could have passed for the New York Stock Exchange. Our city was a nice
place to live. We had good schools, a free zoo, no parking meters, a free
museum and lots of nice things to do and see. Local crime was nearly
nonexistent. Our parks were excellent and well cared for.
Well, we no longer have the Mob. We have a lot of something known as
"authorities." The people who run them answer only to God. They make
enormous salaries and appoint their friends to run things. Taxes are going
up constantly, because the things that used to make money for the city are
now under the authorities, which seem to make a lot of money, but none of
that comes back to the citizens. Our infrastructure is falling apart,
because every move they make requires an expensive study or two and then a
commission must be appointed and then bids taken (low bid usually not
accepted), and so it goes.
If you're lucky enough to have the Mob running things, don't complain, just
enjoy.
