Deuteronomy 14:12b: Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk
(KJV).
According to kosher dietary laws, one is forbidden to eat meat and
dairy in the same meal, or to cook/serve on the same dishes. That's why
Jews who keep kosher have 2 sets of dishes. Some go so far as to have
separate stoves, sinks, refrigerators and countertops.in their kitchen.
In a related note, they will also have separate dishes for Passover,
since any kind of leavening is forbidden and they don't want to chance
getting even a crumb of bread into the Seder. I once saw an apartment
in Metropolitan Home magazine that had a Passover kitchen, that, when
Passover week was finished, the appliances and countertops were covered
with removable counters, and the kitchen was used as the wife's sewing
room the rest of the year. Back when the laws were codified, they
didn't have modern methods of food preservation and refrigeration, so
the dietary laws (no pork or shellfish, etc) made a lot of sense.
Actually, except for the high sodium content, the kosher diet is rather
healthy, since most of the forbidden foods are bad for you anyway.

you make ham hocks & beans, kick it up a notch--use prosciutto hocks.
