Nessie, if Patty has real evidence of physical abuse by the kids' father,
and you say she does, then she ought to be able to petition a court for an
injunction against the state and an order returning the boys to her custody.
Friends who are also aware of the father's history should be able to
intervene on the kids' behalf. There are child advocacy groups, other
citizens' groups that will know the ins-and-outs of the system and can move
rapidly. For God's sake, mobilize all possible support here... This happens
much too often.

Some relevant questions: WHY did the evaluator reject the tape as evidence
of abuse? What were the evaluator's qualifications to judge the children's
state? And above all, since when is it the state's business whether a child
is "fully socialized"? It may be the state's business whether a child is
learning certain basic subjects, but to intervene because a child is
perceived to be insufficiently involved with his peer group seems bizarre to
me, especially if that child doesn't pose a danger to anyone and is not at
any risk himself. This is clearly a power play by an insecure male who deems
any self-respecting female a threat to his male authority (i.e., to his
penis).
