There are also a bunch of class-A jerks. However, the smart thing to do is
to judge what people say on it's own merits and not on the basis of how
it's said or by who. Statements stand or fall on their own. The truth is
the truth no matter who says it. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
As a general rule, if there is no evidence, it's not true. People who
believe things that can't be proven are, to put it politely, making a very
big mistake.
The main value of this place for me is that it's a place where I can hear
things I would hear anywhere else from people with whom I could not have a
civil conversation F2F. There are people here, not just myself, who would
be bashing each other with barstools in short order if they ever met F2F.
But here they can pool information. It benefits both parties and all
interested observers.
Incidentally, I don't much care if people like me or not. This has brought
me immeasurable happiness over the years. No matter what I do, some people
like it and some don't. You can't please everybody. It can't be done.
What's more, you don't really need to please anybody, unless of course
they have a gun to your head. But you do have to please yourself. If you
don't like you, life sucks. So be true to yourself and, as a famous Yank
sailor once said, "Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead."
If, on the other hand, what you really want from life is to be liked, F2F
beats the internet hands down. But don't be yourself or tell too much
truth. Kiss ass, tell lies, spend money. People will like you. I guarantee
it.
