Why must you interpret it that way? Is that the way you interpret the JFK
assassination? That he had to die so our destiny, mucky and garbled as it
is, could be attained? If Jesus was a true figure in history and if he did
indeed die on a cross, why take the current organized religion's view of it
when you don't give much weight to the Bible and you probably don't have any
respect for organized religion?
I'm not even sure Jesus lived the way explained, let alone died the way
explained. The virgin birth, the manger, the crucifxion, the betrayal - are
all echoes from the tales of other legendary figures. But if he did live and
die that way, it sounds more like a political assassination than some weird
hocus pocus to take on the sins of other individuals. How does one take on
the wrongs of another? Individuals have their own acountability. This
"sacrifice for our sins" thinking is bizarre and unnatural, IMO.
