No, because as far as I know, no one has claimed that JFK is the Son of God,
who was sent here to die for our sins. That IS the claim that Christianity
makes.
Therefore, it stands to reason that Jesus had to die a horrible death rather
than die of old age in his bed. My Sunday school teachers confirmed this,
as this was one of the 'troublesome' questions I would raise back then...
If Jesus lived to old age and died of natural causes, his whole existence
would have been meaningless. The whole reason for God to manifest His Son
in the flesh was for His Son to atone for our collective sins. That's what
the Bible claims.
>If Jesus was a true figure in history and if he did
>indeed die on a cross, why take the current organized religion's view of it
I'm taking no view, only presenting what is stated in the Bible.
>when you don't give much weight to the Bible
Who says I don't? I've never said that.
>and you probably don't have any respect for organized religion?
And I've never said that, either.
Any 'disrespect' I have for any flavor of organized religion lies not in
what any one religion claims as a matter of faith, but when certain
adherents take matters of faith and then try to present it as gospel
truth... ;-)
>I'm not even sure Jesus lived the way explained, let alone died the way

Perhaps Jesus was nothing more than a mortal man, who was put to death
because he was perceived to be a threat to domestic tranquility and order
and maintainance of the status quo...
But that isn't what the Bible claims. The Bible assigns a singular type of
metaphysicality to Jesus; indeed some Christians go beyond calling Jesus the
Son of God and claim He is God Himself.
And that casts everything in a totally different light...
Compare Christianity with any other religion...what other religion has its
god killed by mortals? None.
>How does one take on the wrongs of another? Individuals have their own
>acountability. This "sacrifice for our sins" thinking is bizarre and
>unnatural, IMO.
Hey, take it up with the Christians, not with me...
I presume you aren't one? ;-)
