When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Weapons will be used.
If there is no reason to use them, reasons will be invented, no matter how
"reasonable" and "intelligent" the person is who is holding them.
Expect your friend to betray you, without wavering in your trust. Even your
enemy may befriend you.
Violence is quick. Violence gives you a result *now*, but its results don't
last. Nonviolence, "truth power," *satyagraha*, takes a lot longer, but its
results last forever. Violence is always a copout. Violence is the lazy
person's answer to problems. Nonviolence requires commitment, discipline,
and above all the willingness to sacrifice. It's very easy to blow up a
house, and one person can do it alone; but to *build* a house takes a lot
longer, and is done best by a community.
