OK. Wasn't one of the first things he did upon entering the temple was
to throw out the moneychangers? A little more direct approach than the
"Render..."bit. I realize that the religious reading of this is that
they were desecrating 'holy' ground, but the Dead Sea Scrolls put that in
a much different light (I am not an expert in this, I came across them
while researching archaeology in that area).

I would not flame anyone, much less someone who is trying to carry on an
honest dialogue about a touchy subject. Needless to say, I am not a
believer. I am just continually amazed that christians can find a couple
of lines that MAY be regarded as being anti gay, but ignore the numerous
direct warnings about the evils inherent in capitalistic ventures. To me
the bible (old and new testiments) is a good reference book, and has some
good concepts for getting along with each other. No better and no worse
than any of the other major religions. However, the role of christianity
in history leaves one to wonder about the valididy of allowing it any
modicum of power. It is that history that makes me very nervous when I
see politicians invoking that same religion as 'the right way' or calling
this a christian country.
