Well, the BATF has done it once again in southern California...
Conveniently the suspect's house was left to burn to the ground,
conveniently destroying any evidence to his alleged guilt there may have
been...
According to Fox News, the suspect -- presumed to have died in the fire
-- is an ex-cop. Anyone heard any other information regarding this
"James Beck"?
One thing I noticed as I watched the non-stop coverage this afternoon --
the house had a somewhat 'fortress' look, with many less windows on the
ground floor than the houses on either side of it.
I also noticed that the authorities kept harping on how the suspect fired
'many shots', 'round after round of shots', etc., and the reporters duly
puppeted that line. But then more than one neighbor was put on the line
to report what they had witnessed when it all went down first thing this
morning, and each one mentioned hearing only one or two shots...they then
got cut off by the reporters, who obviously didn't want to pursue that
line...
Fox News also had some expert -- didn't catch his name -- who was very
critical on how the authorities handled this; he pointed out that if it
was really thought that the suspect was stockpiling weapons, that it was
very stupid to serve the suspect the warrant at his house, where he could
easily avail himself of the supposed stockpile. The expert pointed out
that the smart thing would have been to wait until Beck left the house
and arrest him when he was away from the house...
He was also very critical of the teargas being used so early on, and
blamed its use for causing the inferno (perhaps that was what was wanted,
so that the LACK of a weapons stockpile wouldn't come out?)...the Fox
reporters consistently cut this guy off when he started pursuing these
critiques of the BATF's handling of the matter...
