I tuned to WCBS-TV that morning, the only local NYC station that was able to remain on the air (the other NYC stations had all had their transmitters on top of the WTC and so lost their broadcast signals for days afterwards)... And the WCBS reporters live on the scene kept mentioning, as did the NYPD and FDNY on the scene, about the explosions -- more than one -- that had occured on the basement levels of the WTC complex in the time between the first plane hit and the collapse of the towers... On the evening of 9/11, WCBS had a reporter doing live interviews with people who were lined up at one of the NYC hospitals seeking first aid treatment...in the line were a married couple from Korea, tourists who'd gone to visit the WTC first thing that morning... The man, who spoke fairly good English, was bleeding from one of his feet; he explained that he and his wife had just gotten to the WTC complex when the first plane hit the North Tower at 8:45am...he said that he and his wife immediately ran into the South Tower, with the idea of taking the elevator up to the observation deck to get a better view of the burning North Tower (go figure)... According to this tourist, they'd just entered the lobby of the South Tower and were getting on the escalator that would take them to the upper lobby level where the elevators were, when there was an explosion from the lower concourse level, and explosion which resulted in the injury to this man's foot... This was at least 10 minutes before the 2nd plane hit the South Tower....
