That was under 7 WTC down the street, not directly under the Twin Towers; people forget that the WTC was a complex of 7 buildings covering a 16 acre site -- quite a bit of ground, especially in lower Manhattan. So I doubt Guliani's gas tanks are what caused the explosions people witnessed UNDER the two main towers; candidates for a fuel source under the two towers would be: 1) the underground parking garage, which I believe was on 2 levels, held thousands of cars with their tanks containing gasoline; in addition, there was a level where trucks made deliveries, and as was shown on the History Channel's documentary on the WTC, every day this level was as gridlocked as any Manhattan street 2) one of the lower levels was devoted to the heating plant, which contained hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel to provide heat and hot water to the complex, including the two towers That said, I don't think either explains the initial underground explosions, only explains why the underground fires continued for as long as they did. It seems the underground explosions were timed and situated to best hinder both evacuation and rescue attempts....
