-Caveat Lector-
First, a question - what does anyone know about the
"Earl of Dicehart" (sp?) Movement?
Here is what I have heard about Christian Identity ( and
also, my own view) -
1. I have read the book, RELIGION AND THE RACIST RIGHT by
Michael Barkun. It is mainstream. Does have some probably
accurate info on history of British Israel and CI (which
does make them look kind of silly). Does not rant,
ridicule, use personal attack, is not a diatribe - is
scholarly. Does not mention Dr. Dee. (The book mentioned
that discusses him sounds very interesting.) A later
edition of Barkun seems to have some disinfo about OKC, or
at least to accept the official 'lone right-wing nut(s)'
version.
2. A smart & knowledgeable friend, whose ideas & info I
respect (tho he is of course not infallible) (he's the one
who turned me into the lonely dissident I am today, by
telling me about the Fed & getting me to start some reading
on it & related matters) says that CI has been deliberately
'seeded' in the right-wing patriot or resistance movement.
It IS very useful to the power elite, in that it enables
right or rightish dissidents (which most dissidents are
assumed to be) to be
attacked/demonized/discredited/neutralized as hate-filled
generally messed up fringe elements.
I personally tend to believe that he is correct. The
fringe element 'unstable ones' to use a neutral term - and
it is undeniable that CI has more than its share of these -
are, like God, so useful that if they did not or do not
exist they are helped along a bit. So many cults & fringe
groups have intelligence agency backing/involvement. (A
fascinating book is WAS JONESTOWN A CIA MEDICAL EXPERIMENT"
by Michael Meier.)
3. I am skeptical of the 'lost tribe' idea of CI because
it seems to fit so nicely (too nicely) with the universal
human need/wish/tendency to regard oneself as special or
better - what I call our personal chauvinism, or egotism -
you get the idea.
4. In this vein I will add that I am re
metaphysics/religion, after much thought, reading,
discussion, attempts to convert me, etc. an "I-don't know-
ist." To me the Bible and religion (like a Rorschach
inkblot projective assessment/test) tell more about the men
who wrote/believe them than about the eternal questions of
what is the source of all things, why we are here, etc.
In religion as in most things people's beliefs tend to be
self-serving, basically - comforting, ego-massaging,
justifying things they are doing or want to do, etc. Also
the fundament of human belief and action is irrational -
emotion, pain-pleasure, early conditioning, habit, etc.
really govern us - so it seems wise to try to keep a
certain detachment from one's own ideas and to never loose
sight of the basic moral guide that would serve us all well
if we would/could follow it - the "Golden Rule."
Re CI You can see from the above that I find it a very
self-serving belief system and to be a manifestation of
the almost universal human tendency to be racist, with
one's own race of course being at the top of the heap,
however that belief is rationalized.
